Nature’s antidote to the stresses and strains of daily life!
At Althea we know the fantastic potential of good quality essential oils and believe that they are “natures antidote to the stresses and strains of modern day living”. However, we also recognise that some people think that they are complicated to use or are a bit “airy-fairy”, so let us persuade you this is just so not the case. We decided to demystify the issue and get the “complicated” bit of blending done and out of the way and show that far from being “airy-fairy” the use of essential oils is a growing trend and a discerning choice for those who think natural is best. Now all you have do is pick the mix that appeals to your mood or need the most, see just how easy they are to use and start to enjoy all the natural benefits that these wonderful oil blends provide.
For a little potted history on essential oils and how they work read on…
Essential oils have a history that goes back to all the major ancient civilisations of the world where the oils played a very important role within their cultures being used therapeutically for mind, body and spirit. The term aromatherapy was only coined in the last century by French Chemist Dr Rene-Maurice Gattefosse in 1928 with the practice of aromatherapy in health and beauty being pioneered by French biochemist Marguerite Maury. In today’s world aromatherapy continues to be researched by medical doctors and aromatherapists as to the powerful nature of these natural elixirs and how they can contribute to our modern way of living.
Essential oils work on the mind and body and we respond to them first when we smell them and secondly when we absorb them through our skin. These two actions work simultaneously physically and psychologically. Different oils have different attributes so dependent on how they are used or blended they can revive, relax, romance, calm or just be enjoyed for the beautiful scent they provide. Through the sense of smell they will stimulate the brain’s limbic system (this is where our emotions and memories sit), which is why smell is such a strong mood influencer.
When using on the body, ensuring that the oil is always diluted, the molecules are so small they easily enter the body through the pores and into the circulation speedily moving to the place within they body where they can do the most good. However used they will get to work straight away. Once their therapeutic benefits have done their work they are easily eliminated from the body, within a period of 6 – 14 hours, and as they are all natural there are no nasty toxins left behind in the body.
